Preparing for Surgery
What to you need to know about surgery
Dr Lee operates at several public and private hospitals around Sydney. During the consultation, the most suitable locations will be chosen after discussion with you and your family.
In general, performing surgeries at hospitals (instead of in an office) offers better anesthesiological (such as breathing, blood pressure, pain and anxiety control around the surgery) and surgical (such as sterile field of operation, advanced surgical equipment and complication management) environment. However, there are certain conditions requiring less complexity of management and may be carried out in the office for its efficiency. Dr Lee will discuss this with you and your family before surgery is arranged.
If surgeries are to be carried out with anaesthesia, you or your child will likely be asked not to eat or drink anything several hours before the surgery. Fasting before the surgery ensures there is little or no content in your stomach to regurgitate whilst under anaesthesia, a choking hazard during the operation. The time to start fasting is usually communicated with you or your family several days before the surgery once the order of the surgical list has been finalised.
Deciding on having surgery is often a big deal, Dr Lee is glad to offer continual support via email or phone communications if you have any concerns before or after surgery. Please contact the surgical coordinators at Dr Lee’s consultation office to arrange this.
